Prince George's County Teacher Training - 2010-2011 Workshops

Water Canaries - September 15 at Rock Creek Park. Learn how to determine water quality using benthic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators. A great way to introduce students to the interconnected nature of our ecosystems, and the idea of bioindicators.

Field Science - September 15 at Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary (a state park, and a new site for BTW that is IN COUNTY!) – an introduction to teaching in the outdoors and some of the human impacts on protected lands that resource managers grapple with.

Mapping Our Parks - December 8 at the Owens Science Center – learn how to use Fieldscope, an online GIS to enhance your students’ BTW experience. Fieldscope offers the ability to understand watersheds using geospatial technologies, and to more easily visualize ecological concepts.

Watersheds and Non-Point Source Pollution - Wednesday Feb 2 at Glen Echo Park. Connecting the themes and standards in all of the modules. Teachers will gain an understanding of the concept of a watershed and how non-point source pollution affects water quality.

Climate and Watersheds - Wednesday March 16 at Fort Washington Park. How will climate change affect the water quality issues BTW explores? A primer on the science of climate change will be offered.
