In Agra and New Delhi, India, volunteers participated in the Blue Yamuna River Cleanup in conjunction with the Alice Ferguson Foundation’s Potomac River Watershed Cleanup.
In Agra, 400 people participated including a Municipal Commissioner! They removed 4,400 pounds of trash including an interesting item--Puja/Worship items.
Groups that participated were Rivers of the World Foundation, Yamuna Foundation for Blue Water, Agra Municipality, Police Officers, and Agra Municipal Engineers. Organizers said that they need to follow up on the enthusiasm of the local people!
In New Delhi, along the Yamuna River, 35 volunteers including the President of the Lions Club for the Delhi Capital region were enthusiastic about removing 3,700 pounds of trash from the Kotlah drain near Sewa Nagar. They did not have one single tire, because tires are found valuable to specific classes of the region.
Interesting items were Puja/Worship items (flowers and garlands). Participating groups included, Rivers of the World Foundation, Yamuna Foundation for Blue Water, Lions Club, Techknow Engineering, LLC, Water Community, Delhi.
There was a special person in the group, his name is Mr. D.K. Mital who has been actively pursuing Yamuna River cleanups since 1992 and is still conducting field work at his age of 78! That is dedication!
Thank to Subijoy Dutta, Executive Director of Rivers Of the World Foundation, Dick Lahn, Site Leaders in Agra Brij Khandelwaal and Site Leaders in New Delhi Suresh Soman Nair, and D.K. Mital.
Thank you for your hard work.
